YOUTH EMPOWERMENT: Abia Partners with World Bank.



The government of Abia state is partnering with world bank's Youth Employment and Social Support Operation (YESSO) to train, equip and create employment for Abians

This is in line with  Governor Okezie Ikpeazu's efforts to train, equip and create employment for at least 50,000 Abia youths through the Education for Employment.

Addressing newsmen in Umuahia on Thursday, the state focal person, Mr Endi Ezengwa, said that the aim of YESSO which was introduced in 2012 is to increase access of the poor and vulnerable using improved social safety nets systems, to youth employment opportunities in all participating states and to provide targeted cash transfers to the poor and the vulnerable.

Ezengwa also said that, the YESSO project which is now taking place in 16 states with Abia as the only southeastern state will ensure that all the participants will be receiving a monthly stipend of seven thousand, five hundred naira (7, 500) only, through the bank accounts, during their training, while they will receive startup packs upon graduation.

He noted that "Abia state is benefiting from this project which has been ongoing in some Northern states because of their giant's strides of governor Okezie Ikpeazu led administration in youth empowerment and job creation in the last four years, through the establishment of the Abia State Education for Employment (Abia E4E)."

Mr. Ezengwa who is also the state coordinator of the Abia E4E said that 6 LGA governments (two from each senatorial zone) have been chosen for the first phase of the training which would next week.

The LGAs are:

Ohafia and Umunneochi local governments for Abia North,
Isiala Ngwa North and South for Abia Central,
Ukwa East and Ugwunagbo for Abia South.

While the venue for the 4000 participants from Abia North is at Abia State University, Uturu, the venues for Abia central and Abia are; Amapu Ntigha stadium in Isiala Ngwa North, and Enyimba Intl stadium, Aba.

On Thursday, the 11th day of July 2019, the state Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu will officially flag off the project at Umuahia township stadium.
